  1. Explanation:
Multiformat features allow the video player to utilize our display features, for example, the video to display passback allows us to show a display placement instead of the player once the player has triggered an adError event. To utilize these abilities, we have an additional creative type called “multiformat” which is available only on channels.

  2. How can you utilize multiformat channels:

    1. Outstream Player Video to Display Passback - Feature is ready to be used.

    2. Instream Player Video to Display Passback - Feature is NOT ready to be used.

    3. Instream Player Overlay Ads (Display ads on content) - Feature is NOT ready to be used.

    4. Outstream Player Video/Display Demand Rotator - Feature is NOT ready to be used.

    5. Multiformat channels can also be used for regular video players and display placements, the irrelevant waterfall would just be ignored - Feature is ready to be used.

      4. Channel changes:

        1. Structure changes - The channel is separated to “Settings”, “Video Setup” and “Display Setup”.

        2. Trackers - Include an additional field for creative type - you can set “All” for both video and display, or just “Video” or “Display” to control which trackers are sent for each creative type.

        3. IVT works only for video, not supported in display yet.

  2. Publisher - Setting up Publisher connection/channel for Multiformat features.

    1. Create/Convert and set up the network channel as described above.

    2. If the publisher channel already exists - You need to convert it to multiformat.

      1. Go to the publisher channel on the publisher account.

      2. Click “Convert to Multiformat”.

        Image Removed
    3. If the publisher channel is not yet created:

      1. First, create a connection for either video or display.

      2. Click “Save + Channel” - When the network channel creative type is multiformat, the created publisher channel, will automatically be “multiformat”, so no need to convert it.

      3. After the first publisher connection is created (for this example, let’s assume a video publisher connection was created first), now we need to create the display publisher connection and associate it to the same channel that was created before, two options:

        1. The recommended way is to create the display publisher connection, and choose the new field, “Connect to existing publisher channel” and select the existing multiformat publisher channel from list. (we connect both video and display connections to the same publisher channel to allow both video and display data from the player to be counted on the same network and publisher channels).

        2. Alternatively, you can create the display publisher connection, and manually associate it to the channel on the publisher account.

  3. Partner - Setting up Partner connections with Multiformat network channel.
For networks that use the partner connection, a multiformat network channel with partner connections can be a great way to provide all relevant display and video demand in a certain scope (per domain, partner) and keep reporting on a single channel entity.

    1. Create/Convert and set up the network channel as described above.

    2. Create a partner connection for each creative.

    3. Partner list will only show partners that have the “Display Service” enabled.

    4. If used for multiformat features - Instruct the partner to add each of the partner connections to their respective creative type waterfall of the same channel, and set up the multiformat features as described below.

    5. If used for single format features - no need to connect to the same multiformat channel on the partner side, can be used separately.

  3. Multiformat channels must be associated to the video player (this channel type has both video and display waterfalls).

  4. Types of multiformat features:

    1. Instream Player:

      1. Display Ads in Ad Breaks (Linear) - Display ad appears in video ad slot, or if no video is found for ad slot, display ad will show instead. Will only work with “Slots” mode players, will not work in breaking ads mode (Feature in development).

      2. Display Ads Over Content (Overlay) - Display ad (wide rectangle) appears over the content.

      3. Display Passback Ads (Passback) - Replace the video player with a display placement after errorLimit is reached. For instream player you can define when in the content cycle this is done:

        1. Immediate - Video player will be replaced as soon as the error limit is reached.

        2. When Current Content Ends - Video player will be replaced when current content play ends.

        3. When Playlist Ends - Video player will be replaced when current content playlist play ends.
